4-Day Adventure: Friday, August 15 - Monday, August 18, 2014
Join us as we set sail from the Maritime Museum on San Diego Bay to the beautiful waters surrounding Catalina Island aboard the schooner Californian. This voyage offers a unique perspective on seamanship, maritime history and the awesome beauty of the Pacific Ocean.
Sailing aboard the Californian offers an opportunity to step into the past and experience the romance of tall ship sailing. The friendly and experienced crew will be happy to share their knowledge with you, and as an active member of the guest crew you will take your turn standing watch, hauling lines, manning the helm and perhaps even going aloft.
This adventure will use the tall ship, Californian, as our "moving hotel" as we cross the Pacific to various islands. Upon arrival we launch the kayaks to explore sea caves and beaches for an up- close-and-personal look at the amazing marine world of California sea lions, colorful sea stars, and the bright orange garibaldi,
The 4-day adventures explore the coast of Catalina Island. The 7-day adventures will visit three of the Channel Islands including Santa Cruz Island with world famous Painted Cave, the largest sea cave in the world.
Cost for the 4-day adventure is $775. The 7-day adventure is $1095. Includes sailing adventure (departure and return San Diego Maritime Museum, San Diego Bay), guided kayaking tours, meals and accommodations on the Californian.
Along with the challenge of sailing a tall ship and becoming accustomed to a more rustic lifestyle, you'll share with your shipmates the camaraderie of a sort rarely found on shore. If you have an adventuresome spirit, a robust nature and a passion for the sea, then this is the trip for you!

This tour uses a cabin at a lodge, which will be our home each night. The lodge is located on a private island within the 10,000 island area. We will take shuttle boats out to the local islands and mangroves where we will be dropped off to explore in our kayaks. We will paddle an average of 5-8 miles each day.
Some days we will get dropped off on a white sand beach on one of the 10,000 islands and spend the day exploring the small keys in the Gulf of Mexico. Along the way we will encounter dolphins, sea turtles, white pelicans, and snowy egrets.
