Kayaking with Dolphins in Mission Bay

We had some unexpected excitement on our Pelican and Sea Lion Kayak Tour today when we discovered dolphins jumping and diving inside the bay.

In my 15 years of paddling Mission Bay, I had never seen dolphins inside the bay before.

We often see them on our San Diego Bay kayak tours, but not in our smaller Mission Bay.

This was quite a treat for Kate and her out of town guest, her adult daughter, who spotted them first.

We paddled out near them and watched them frolick for several minutes before they made their way back toward the ocean.

You just never know what wonderful surprises Mother Nature has in store.
